the first awesome day of the year

2007 didn't start off on a very good note. In fact, it started off real bad. I was thrown into a bottleneck of work right from day 2 at work and the first 2 weeks were just pure madness. Working till my eyes couldn't open, having dinner at earliest 9.30pm and not having any appetite because I was so exhausted. I really hated work because the tasks felt so meaningless, at least one thing would go wrong every day, people were asking me for help and I had to turn them away because I was too busy and well, the people at the top just do not see how much pain they are causing small fry like me when they make last minute requests. Yup, sadly this happens everywhere. I badly wanted to start my job search, but I had no time because I had to bring work back over the weekend. On top of that, I skipped visiting Ah Ma because I had to finish my work and that made me feel really lousy.

I prayed and cried to God for help, and He didn't fail me. After the bottleneck cleared, I am finding this week a refreshing breeze. I'm actually FREE at work, having the luxury to clean up my desk, read the newspapers or chat with colleagues in the corridor. I know this lull will at most last for two weeks before another xiong period, but hey, two weeks is quite a long time :)

20 Jan was the first awesome day of the year, the day when I cast work totally aside and just indulged in pleasure after pleasure. My friend Arielbubble had a little LELONG at a nail spa shophouse in Circular Road, selling clothes and accessories from her overseas travels. I bought a total of 3 tops, 1 dress, 2 necklaces and a handbag, and did the first pedicure in my life, all for $169.50. Not a bad deal at all. And this is excluding the top and dress I bought in the morning before lunch :P

It felt so good to pamper myself after two weeks of hell. Sitting in a comfy chair, soaking my feet in warm soapy water and listening to chic French music was really bliss. On top of that, there was cake, nonya kueh, fruit and Arielbubble's mum's home-made pineapple tarts to feast on. And before that, I just had a sinful nasi padang lunch with the most sedap dishes ever (from Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang at Circular Road, extremely sedap but quite expensive; treat yourself to this once in awhile). BBQ chicken in coconut sauce, squid in squid ink (this looked scary as the sauce was all black but it tasted so sweet and heavenly), tauhu telor (huge tofu fried to a crisp with a fragrant egg flavour and drenched in peanut sauce), stir-fried vegetables, curry and belacan to go with our rice. PLUS, I had BK croissanwich meal for breakfast! And... a huge potluck party with lots of seafood at Ah Ma's after the pedicure. OH HOW SINFUL!

My verdict on pedicures--a great way to pamper oneself, though I'd rather spend the money on a good meal. I think they're only worth it if you want to do nail art and your feet need a good scrubbing. But yes, I'm definitely hooked and it'll be another few months before I go for my next one. Maybe I'll ask the nail artist to paint a cat on my big toes the next time :)

The last weekend I finally started on my long overdue job search. I sent out 7 resumes in 2 days. Hopefully something comes out of it. In any case, I've just discussed with my gal pal to try doing an online baking business. This is something that my friends have been clamouring I should do for awhile, but I've always resisted it for fear that it would kill my hobby. Don't know why I suddenly feel the urge to do it, but it sure is some big project to fire me up for the whole of this year. So dear friends, you can expect to be guinea pigs for the next few months as gal pal and me perfect our recipes. We've already got a mini battle plan in mind. And it will be SWEET :)

So I guess 2007 is turning out to be not bad after all. I just hope there won't be any storms worse than that of the first 2 weeks. Indeed God is faithful and He will make a way for me. I am very hopeful :)
