Dim Sum never dies

I watched Little Shop Of Horrors yesterday and it didn't disappoint. This is the fourth Dim Sum Dollies instalment and the dollies proved that they are still as hot, sexy, cute and funny as ever. Indeed, the secret to dim sum success is this sizzling trio, made up of the best three theatre actresses in Singapore. Emma, Selina and Pam are already stage divas on their own. Put them together and they deliver a powerful punch of boundless energy, perfect comedic timing and girlie oomph.

I was surprised to see less of them in Little Shop. Hossan was the star of the show, with his pathetic but sweet and lovable character. Known more for his ability to make people laugh, he revealed his other acting sword-- stirring up tender emotions in the hearts of the audience. Despite the dollies' secondary role in Little Shop, their every appearance shined as they delivered roles from ah lians to stewardesses to parking pontianaks with the smooth confidence of stage veterans. Each dolly possesses her own charm--Selina is a boisterous and hearty char siew pau, Emma, a sweet, tasty and satisfying egg tart and Pam, a steaming hot xiao long bao that explodes with the most amazing flavour. It is heartening to see that the dim sum spirit is still alive and well. I'm waiting to see if they progress from steaming to sizzling next year. These girls should upgrade themselves to form Singapore's very own Chilli Padi Sirens; who needs the Spice Girls?!

I must congratulate Dream Academy for a very successful and accessible production, one that reached out to every age group. Even children could reflect on the simple message and enjoy the catchy music and wonderful puppetry (the orchid is a bombshell, both in size and in the way it sings like a rock star). I was feeling quite sleepy before the show, but once it started, my senses heightened. There was never a dull moment as the pace never slackened; on the contrary, it picked up and loosened at the right times. Granted that it wasn't very original as the production was adapted, but what the team did was to make it Singaporean, and that will always go down well with the audience, with or without Singlish. I also should not forget the lovely Audrey (I do not know her real name), who played her saccharine sweet and battered woman role to great aplomb, but what really shined was her powerful vocals.

Being the Dim Sum Dolly groupie that I am, I bought a T-shirt and got it signed by the dollies themselves. I also begged for a picture with them that's now the wallpaper for my handphone. Looking at us smiling babes sure helps perk up my day :) Keep the treats coming, girls, and don't break up, if not eating har kau and siew mai will never be the same again.

Christmas Wish List

Knowing that some of you kind souls are planning to get me stuff for Christmas, I thought I would do the practical thing and state what I really want, what I don't mind having and what I don't want just to make your job easier. I hope this little experiment works. If it does, I will proceed to draw up this list annually. Here goes...

What I really want for Christmas

  • Body scrub (refreshing flavours preferred, e.g. lemon, kiwi, citrus, the kind that will make you 'wake up' in the shower). I like the ones which don't make my skin feel oily after application.
  • A straw bag big enough to hold an A4 size file/Today size newspaper/small book, small umbrella, water bottle, sweater/shawl. I've been searching for this FOREVER in Singapore and Bangkok, but haven't found the right one yet. Colour should be light straw; a 'basket' bag is good but it shouldn't be too heavy as it's meant to be my 'reading' bag containing reading material to peruse through on the move.
  • A Laura Fygi CD. Any one, and it's better if most of the songs are not in English.
  • Kimono like tops

What I don't mind for Christmas

  • Body Shop's ylang ylang shower gel or any other fruity smelling shower gel (doesn't have to be from Body Shop) but don't get me the following because I already have it--cranberry, bergamot, candy citrus, moonflower.
  • Accessories. After all, what's a goddazz without her bling? Those of you who know me should know what kind I like. Dangly earrings are always welcome, but not too heavy ones. Rustic looking necklaces (wood, string, twine, beads, crystal-like precious stones) rock too, the more unique the better, but not bizarre please! I do not want to look like a vine just grew on my neck!
  • Food or food vouchers. When all else fails, you know this one will please anybody. I do not like fruit cake, Christmas pudding and mince pies though. Chocolates, cake (everything except banana), biscuits and cookies are perfect for my sweet tooth :) Heck, why not get me a hamper :P
  • Funky tees (small or XS)
  • Wraparound skirts (waist is 28 inch, yes I know you don't believe it but it's true)
  • Cardigans (any colour except yellow, white, orange, grey and brown)
  • Slippers (size 8)
  • Handbags, including evening ones (but not too teeny weeny please!)
  • Shawls (those that actually keep people warm as opposed to just being decorative are preferred)
  • Jazz CDs
  • Nail polish
  • Shoe vouchers :) :) :) (Nine West, Pretty Fit, Novo, VNC)
  • Clothes vouchers (Mango, Zara, Mphosis, Fond Hugs...)
  • Bolster

What I do not want for Christmas

  • Soft toys
  • Candles
  • Aromatherapy burners and aromatherapy oil
  • Photo frames
  • Cookbooks (too many at home)
  • Books (also too many, need to find time to read those at home first); BUT if the book is very me, I will welcome it with open arms :)
  • Handphone chains
  • Moisturiser (too much at home)
  • Hand cream (too much at home)
  • Lip balm
  • Key chains

So how, comprehensive enough? If in doubt, consult me! But try to do it tactfully such that I wouldn't have a clue what I'm gonna get from you. The worst thing would be that you lead me on and I think I'm going to get a fantastic gift, then I get a tissue packet holder or something :P
